LIKES - Foundation for Sport and Health Sciences
LIKES – Foundation for Sport and Health Sciences was established in Jyväskylä, Finland, in 1970. The purpose of the foundation is to promote exercise and public health and tosupport these research fields both in Finland and abroad.
LIKES Research Center works in close cooperation with universities and other research institutes to develop and conduct multidisciplinary and applied exercise and public health research, in order to educate society and communicate research findings.
In 2000, LIKES established the Unit for Youth Life Style Research, LINET which conducts research on the life style of children and young people.
Run by LIKES, the Fit for Life Program (KKI in Finnish) is a national and a ministry funded program for inspiring people over 40 years of age to include physical activity to their daily lives. The program creates exercise services that are easily available to middle-aged and senior citizens.
Fit for Life was awarded by WHO Counteracting Obesity Award in November 2006.
